Skills That Last a Lifetime

Every child is unique. They have unique personalities, interests, skill levels, and perceptions of the world. We get to know our students in order to make lesson plans and games tailored to what will be the most fun and effective for them. In everything we do, our mission is to make the experience of learning fun and engaging. We see our students as future adults, so we build skills that they’ll need for a lifetime to build a solid foundation of confidence.

Emotional Intelligence

Intellakids teaching goes beyond learning the ABCs. Our goal for our students is to be able to identify and communicate their feelings – and to develop the skills to process those feelings in order to become mentally healthy, intelligent individuals. Teaching and role-modeling begins as soon as we enter the home. We come to our student’s homes as their guests and treat them as our hosts, no matter how young they are. We believe that children rehearse ‘real’ life at early ages, and we provide the opportunity to practice their social skills with us, such as greeting, saying goodbye and thank you, walking us to the door, and more. Providing empathy and a safe space for children to be who they are allows them to grow and learn effectively – beyond academics alone.

Reading

Intellakids students learn reading skills as early as 2+ years old. Younger students begin with letter recognition and sound correspondence. Then we learn phonics, word families, rhyming words, sight words, fluency, and comprehension. Through games based on their skill level and what they enjoy, they learn the fundamentals of literacy while playing! For Intellakids readers, comprehension is the goal of reading. Not only do they learn to read the words fluently, they also learn to understand and express their own interpretations of what they read.

Creative Writing

Creative writing develops our ability to express feelings and opinions, organize our thoughts, encourage imagination, and develop a strong ability to communicate. Writing skills emerge as early as a child drawing their first picture. Any kind of narrative that a child creates is the beginning stages of creative writing. At Intellakids, children of all ages learn the writing process – from creating an idea to publishing their first book. From labeling their pictures, to practicing fine motor skills and handwriting, to learning different writing structures, we are with them every step of the way.

Mathematics

As Intellakids educators, we recognize that math is an important part of our everyday lives. A fun and positive introduction to math is crucial for a child’s confidence and attitude towards learning. This is why we use games and play to teach these skills! With Intellakids, math is taught as early as 2+ years old. Our younger students begin with recognizing and naming the numbers, their order, and one-to-one correspondence, then we move on to understanding operations, and beyond. Intellakids students master the fundamentals to set them up for success when we advance to higher levels of mathematics together.

Cognitive Skills and Problem Solving

Practicing cognitive skills builds a child’s brain while improving their mental endurance, concentration, memory, and presence – and with Intellakids, they play while doing it! Playing with pattern recognition, solving unique puzzles, and contemplating deeper questions presented to them creates new neural connections. Intellakids educators give our students the opportunity to recognize how much they can figure out on their own. We are there to challenge, encourage, and observe as they work through these challenges and arrive at solutions independently. These skills have broad effects on both academic performance and their mind as a whole. We believe that it is never too early to start developing a child’s thinking and feeling mind.
